PE Curriculum

Our high quality PE curriculum offers a wide variety of activities both in and out of curriculum time. Children learn that being active is fun and an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.

At the beginning of their school life children learn and explore basic movement skills, they develop these skills throughout their time at Little London and leave as confident movers able to play a wide range of sports.

To enable us to do this, we follow the scheme of work called 'RealPE'. We also encourage teachers to use one of their PE slots to support the schools creative curriculum and link it to their class topic through dance, gymnastics, athletics and competitive team games.

'Real PE'

”The ‘Real PE’ programme has been developed to give ALL children the physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills to achieve in PE, Sport and life. It places the learner at the heart of what we do with the ulitmate goal of children feeling valued, included, challenged and supported in their learning.”

Create Development

'RealPE' is a scheme of work by Create Development which encourages a broad, balanced, child - centred approach to P.E. and Sport.

'RealPE' praises behaviour not skill, passes the responsibility of the lesson to the learner and encourages success, not only within a P.E. lessons but also to other lessons and everyday life.

Swimming

Children in Year 4, as part of their physical education, attend weekly swimming lessons at our local leisure centre, where they are split into two groups. Whilst half the children are in the pool being taught water confidence, safety and stroke technique by the trained instructors the other half use the leisure centres facilities for a PE lesson with their class teacher.

Forest Schools

At Little London all children will take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team through our Forest School programme.

Forest Schools is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

In 2017 we built our very own ‘outdoor classroom’ in the school grounds in which children get to visit every week with our ‘Forest Schools’ trained teacher. Also children in KS2 are lucky to be able to visit local woodlands in the area.
